THE BAOBAB

BAOBAB, THE KING OF TREES

The BAOBAB is a strange tree because it looks like an old man who has an eye on everything, who sees everything, knows everything, accepts and resists all the blows of nature. Its dug trunk, flayed, with open holes, symbolizes the suffering of men. To say that a man is solid and full of experience and wisdom, he is called baobab.
The Baobab is the official symbol of the Quibdó Africa Film Festival. It is a representation of the mythical tree of Africa, full of history, symbol of peace, non-violence and longevity. It is undoubtedly the most famous tree in Africa and also the most easily recognizable.
We meet, listen to the Griot (storyteller) under the shade of the baobab: "The tree to words" is a central place in the social life of the village.

IDEA AND CONCEPTION

The idea of the Baobab was born from trying to find this link between Africa and its diaspora, something that unites us spiritually. Mysticism is for Africans and Afro-descendants, that invisible thread of our faith, which will eliminate the boundaries between us, where reality meets fiction. For African and Afro-descendant filmmakers, QAFF is a date when QUIBDÓ invites us to rethink our narrative.
The design was made by one of Colombia's most talented artists, Paola Lucumí, Afro-Colombian visual artists, who has given life to this symbol of African culture. In September 2021, the Baobab, the official QAFF trophy, will be awarded.

The Baobab has great cultural, social and artistic value. This symbolic tree is a perfect reference for a cinematic narrative.

Sudu Connexion is an international sales and distribution company of films from Africa and its Diaspora, based in Pantin (France) since 2016.

SECTIONS IN COMPETITION
Filmmakers and producers from Colombia and Congo are invited to participate in the National Competition, which awards Fiction, Documentary, Animation, Experimental and Videoclip categories, as well as other technical and artistic categories. In addition, 1000 USD in cash will be distributed among the winners of the National Competition.

The International Competition is open to African-descendant filmmakers from around the world, with awards in the categories of Fiction, Documentary, Animation, Experimental and Videoclip. In addition to the Baobab, 1,000 USD in cash will be distributed among the winners of these categories. All short films entered will be eligible to be included in the "SUDU Connexion Corner" Competition, made up of thematic programs highlighting the originality and style of the short films, in which they will be eligible to win the SUDU Prize. Also, since 2020, a jury composed of film professionals: actors, actresses, producers, directors, journalists will award the prizes.

Producing and making PanAfrican films is one thing, broadcasting them is another. If the films were produced on the margins of the industry, they do not get the visibility they deserve. Passion, transparency and professionnalisme are the three areas of work of Sudu Connexion. In order to give the best possible visibility to the films defended in our catalog but also in order to meet the audience. After 13 years spent to promote Panafrican films in the medias and 5 years broadcasting them in Africa, America and Europe, the Sudu Connexion team defend the fact that a film is made to be seen.

POSTER

Queen Tawa combines extravagance with elegance through her creations.

The stylist is anchored in art.

If fashion became architecture, Liputa Swagga would become the queen. Incredible creations, angular and spectacular lines, african print pushed to its limits, when the garment skillfully verges on extravagance, who said that the Congolese were one step ahead in the sapping?
